Download Nintendo DS Games

Downloading games for your DS can be a quick and cost-effective way to get access to titles which are difficult to obtain for one reason or another. It can also offer a convenient way to have access to all of your favorite titles without having to invest in expensive carrying cases for all of your cartridges (you also don’t have to keep track of all of them!). In order to download Nintendo DS games online and use them on your DS, you’ll need a few extra items to facilitate the transfer. Invest in getting a good-quality R4 card that includes a micro SD card and flash drive. You can use the flash drive to get the DS games onto your SD card, which will then fit into the R4 card that can run in the DS itself. These products are offered for a variety of prices, anywhere from $50-$100 depending on the quality.

If these numbers make you wince, consider that the average price for a DS cartridge is normally around $25, and this hardware will easily house a dozen games. In the long run, the investment is worth it!

Once you have the hardware, finding the games you want is the next struggle. There are a number of websites which houseĀ Nintendo DS game downloads you need, and you can obtain them via a P2P connection or torrent software. The ever-present danger with obtaining popular titles for free is, of course, the danger of adware, spyware and other malicious programs embedded in the file. Always inspect the websites you download Nintendo DS games from thoroughly for any signs that the files may be illegitimate: look for reviews and comments that others have made about the Nintendo DS games download and whether the website has had problems in the past. Once you have downloaded the program promptly scan it using antivirus software before putting it on your flash card and SD card. It may mean taking more time finding a title you want, but that’s better than having your computer (much less your DS) bombarded with malicious software. If it seems too good to be true, play it safe and assume it is!

Once you have the file and you’re assured that it’s safe, put the flash drive into your PC and put your SD card into the flash drive. Transfer the .nds file in your download onto the SD card (this may require you to “unzip” the download. You can do this with programs such as WinRAR), place the SD card into your R4 card and insert the R4 card into your DS. From there you should be ready to play, all your favorite titles conveniently housed in one easy-to-carry cartridge rather than a series of clunky plastic cartridges!

With the proper equipment and precaution downloading Nintendo DS games can be a snap, and a great way to save money on overly-expensive and cumbersome cartridges if you can overcome the initial investment required.

Stop Playing Against a Computer and Start Interacting with your Peers

Get interactive with fellow video gamers with DS downloads. Nintendo of America has come to the rescue for all gamers by creating DS Downloads, compatible with Nintendo DS products, a player can connect to another player with one game card. Insert the game card into your DS console and select the multi-player option on the game menu, the other player then downloads the Download Play Application which searches and connects to the first DS Console. Do note, you must download DS in order for the connection to work; it is not enough just to select the multi-player option on the game’s menu.

You must get an R4 card to insert into your DS Console; sold at many online websites, these “supercards” have additional accessories but the most important include an R4 card, micro SD card, and a flash drive where the micro SD card goes. The flash drive will allow you to get games off of your computer and downloaded into the micro SD card. All of these items fit into each other; the micro SD card with all of the downloaded games will go into the R4 card which then goes into the DS console. Roughly 15-20 games fit on each card, saving you hundreds of dollars. Once you get the card, you never have to buy a DS game again.

Once games have been downloaded onto the micro SD card you need to get the games to your R4 card. First you must put the micro SD card into the flash drive which is then attached to your computer via a USB Port, a pop up will appear that says “Removable Disk (E)” and click “View Folder”. Open the file where you have your games saved and drag the items that have (.nds) as the ending, drag it over to the flash drive and into the Game Folder. Once that is done for all of the games, simply eject the disk and put it into your DS Console.

As of August 5th, 2009, Nintendo has made over 900 DS Download games available to you; so don’t hesitate and get downloading!

Expanding your playtime with R4 DS Downloads

Not without controversy, the R4 for Nintendo DS was released as a means of building the usage of the DS. Unlike its rival the PSP, the DS cannot play MP3s, movies, or anything like that out of the box. With this lack of features, the R4 tapped into a market that craved more from their DS. Now, with a simple internet search for “R4 DS downloads,” anyone can find back-up copies of DS games. These copies will actually be illegal to possess without a hard copy; ROMs are meant only for back-up purposes.

R4 DS downloads are easy to find, but when searching, one should search for communities dedicated to DS homebrew. Homebrew is simply a term used to describe games created by the community. Through the R4 cartridge, the community can install a wide-range of programs, games, and files. The R4 also supports MicroSD cards to make transportation even easier. Also, when downloading these roms and homebrew files, one should take great care and ensure that their virus scanner is up-to-date. Too often the online file sharing community is seen as a breeding ground to online pranksters, who sneak viruses and worms into files. With a little care, this issue can be avoided.

The process to acquire an R4 cartridge isn’t getting easier as Nintendo has begun process to ban the piece of hardware from Japanese stores, where a huge percentage of the R4 DS market lies. The problem with the R4 is that it voids officially-installed DRM, and this hurts the game companies that try to sell their product. Through an open piece of software or hardware, the piracy community is able to distribute formerly locked down software all over the internet in a quick manner. Another issue with the R4 is the ability to play Roms, which Nintendo has recently begun utilizing on WiiWare through the Virtual Console. With the ability to play Roms of past games on the DS, this trend can hurt the market share that Nintendo was hoping to tap into.

Regardless of legal ramifications, R4s are still sole and are still acquirable by anyone wanting it. R4 DS download sites have managed to spring up quickly and tap into a secret, growing market that is able to continue through these online communities. With the internet, devices like the R4, are able to be discussed publicly and openly but behind the veil of anonymity.
